Combined Parish and Finance Council
As part of the Beacons of Light initiative, the St. Gaspar Family of Parishes has established a combined Pastoral Council and a combined Finance Council, with each of the six parishes contributing two representatives to each council.
These councils offer guidance to pastors and parish staff, shaping ministry goals and evaluating progress based on the spiritual, social, and practical needs of the community. While pastoral councils typically include 6 to 14 members, the St. Gaspar Family’s model ensures equal representation from each parish, promoting collaboration and unity across the entire Family.
Members are generally selected through nominations and a period of prayerful discernment, serving staggered three-year terms to maintain continuity. The purpose of these combined councils is to foster shared leadership and build a stronger, mission-driven parish community that is well-equipped to serve and evangelize effectively.

Liturgical Ministries
Altar Servers
Our altar server program is rooted in the traditions of piety and reverence. Under the leadership of Deacon Baldwin, this program helps educate the servers on the various parts of the Mass and why Catholic worship is unique and the perfect form of worship. Please contact the parish office if you or your son would like to join this program.
Lectors
At Mass, Sacred Scripture is proclaimed by the Lector. The Ecumenical Council of Vatican II said of lectors that theirs was an “exalted ministry” and that they “exercise a genuine liturgical function” and so should be “deeply imbued with the spirit of the liturgy.” If you would like to minister to God’s people as a lector, contact the parish office at 937-228-2013.
Extraordinary Ministers
This ministry serves our community through the reverent distribution of Holy Communion at Mass. Please contact the parish office at 937-228-2013 if you are interested in this ministry.
Ushers
Young and older men are encouraged to join this ministry. Ask one of the ushers at Mass for more information, or contact the parish office at 937-228-2013.
Music Ministry
Emmanuel Church has a remarkable history as one of the birthplaces of American Catholic music. It began with the founding of the music publishing company, J. Fischer and Brother (JF&B), which eventually grew to be one of the largest and most influential music publishers in America. Joseph Fischer was born in the village of Silberhausen near the music and art center of Mühlhausen, Germany. He arrived at New York Harbor with his parents and siblings at seventeen years of age and later taught music for two years in Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. He then moved to Dayton to take the position of organist at Emmanuel Church. It was here that he established this music publishing firm with his brother, Ignaz, in 1864. The family business later relocated from Dayton to New York City. JF&B’s music continues in widespread use to this day, including here at Emmanuel.
Today, that heritage is treasured, and our prayerful pursuit of excellence in music in worship continues. As the Church tells us in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (Sacrosanctum Concilium), “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy…
Therefore sacred music is to be considered the more holy in proportion as it is more closely connected with the liturgical action, whether it adds delight to prayer, fosters unity of minds, or confers greater solemnity upon the sacred rites” (112). This is the mission of our music program here at Emmanuel. If you would like to share in this mission, we have many opportunities for participation: St. Romanos Choir (adults; young people who bring a singing adult with them may join as well) Emmanuel Children’s Choir/Youth Choir (ages 8-18) Instrumentalists If you would like information on how you or your child can become part of the music ministry at Emmanuel, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Director of Music, Michelle Carner.
Music for Funerals
Emmanuel Church offers music for funeral liturgies that is both prayerful and liturgically appropriate. Our music ministry assists families in selecting hymns, psalms, and instrumental pieces that honor the deceased while fostering the prayerful atmosphere of the Mass.
